Two new known versions of the coronavirus are now traveling the world – and possibly a third.
These findings have made international travel even more difficult, as countries around the world impose stricter Covid-19 restrictions on travel from locations with documented issues of the new variables.
The first new version of the coronavirus is the novel strain B117, first discovered in the UK in November. It was believed to be up to 70% more transmissible than the virus circulating in the United States. UK snoring has been celebrated in Denmark, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland and Australia.
And, today, Singapore confirmed their first case of the UK variant, Reuters reported. The passenger arrived in Singapore from the UK on 6 December, quarantined on arrival and passed a positive test on 8 December.
Eleven additional travelers already quarantined in Singapore have returned positive results for the UK strain of the coronavirus. All of these cases were quarantined in 14-day quarantine at designated facilities or on their own upon arrival, and had close ties to the quarantine earlier.
The new coronavirus “moves regularly, getting about one new mutation in its genome every fortnight” the CDC said in a statement, but most of the shots are insignificant. In March, for example, two researchers at a Chinese university identified two different strains of the Covid-19 virus.
Researchers are still trying to find out how important the new variable is in the UK. However, the CDC noted that, based on early data, “this variable species is expected to move more rapidly than other circulating sequences.”
The second new, and potentially even more contagious, version of the new coronavirus novel was first identified in South Africa and has now appeared in the United Kingdom, the British government confirmed on Wednesday.
British Health Secretary Matt Hancock told reporters on Wednesday that the South African variant is “very worrying as it is still more mobile and appears to have moved beyond the new version of last year. to look for in the UK. ”
Today, Africa’s chief public health official said a third new variant of the coronavirus appears to have emerged in Nigeria, as reported by the Associated Press. “It’s a different line from the UK and South Africa,” John Nkengasong, head of the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters.
None of the new coronavirus variants have been identified in the United States, however, the CDC has warned that this may be pointless. Viruses have only been followed by about 51,000 of the 17 million U.S. cases – or less than a third of one percent.
“Given the small proportion of U.S. diseases that have been tracked, the variant may be undetected in the United States,” the CDC said.
Currently, more than 40 countries, including Canada, have stopped traveling with the United Kingdom. That list does not include the United States, but the CDC has long established a Level 4-based Health Advisor, indicating a very high level of Covid-19 and recommending that travelers should “Avoid all travel to the United Kingdom. ”
