According to the FDA, the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which was specifically approved for emergency use in the U.S. on Dec. 18, could cause some side effects for those with facial nets.
During a phase 3 trial, this rare side effect was reported by one 51-year-old woman and one 46-year-old woman who received their fillers two weeks before and six months before receiving the individual vaccine.
In addition to the rare side effects that showed up, the swelling in all three cases reported by the FDA either resolved itself or was localized with simple treatment. The inflammatory reaction is caused in response to the filling being a foreign body as described by experts.
However, inflammation does not appear to have been reported with the Pfizer vaccine, despite the fact that these side effects are rare and easy to treat.
