Four camps and two dogs are currently being rescued by helicopter from an underwater campsite after waking up to find the park flooded with no way out.

Four people and two dogs were sharpened to safety in a drama after being hit by flash floods surrounding NSW.

The campers intervened when they awoke to find that sudden flood waters had risen at their campsite near Moree in an inland state.

They had to call for help around 11.30am on Wednesday when it was clear they would not be able to escape on their own.

Photos of the rescue show the precarious situation the group was in when a LifeFlight helicopter found them along with a chihuahua and a Pomeranian.

LifeFlight paramedic Aaron Hartle said the group became familiar with the campsite and was monitoring rainfall in the area, over the past few days.

‘They knew it was raining and they knew it was flooding, but they had talked about the situation and thought they would be fine.’ he said.

‘When they woke up this morning, the water was above knee deep, so the group disrupted the NSW SES, as there was no way out.’

As soon as the helicopter arrived the paramedic on board was wintered to assess the campers and the dogs, who were not injured.

The rescue team took the campers in separate rounds taking two men and one of the dogs in a ‘children’s rescue capsule’ back to safety at Moree Airport.

The floods have come after heavy rains and floods across much of the state.

On Wednesday afternoon, just hours after the rescue, the NSW State Emergency Service issued an evacuation notice to Moree residents.

The LifeFlight helicopter is mainly based in Brisbane, but moree was asked to support emergency services in response to the growing flood crisis.
