The board of directors of Moriah – the Jerusalem Development Company, approved Moria’s work plan for 2021. This is a plan that includes the implementation of transportation, development and infrastructure projects, urban development and the construction of educational and public buildings to be carried out during the coming year, with an unprecedented financial investment of NIS 2.2 billion. The largest annual investment in these areas in the city of Jerusalem in recent decades. The work plan for 2020 was about NIS 1.8 billion.
Moriah is a municipal company of Jerusalem and serves as the central executive arm of the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Transportation. Moriah is responsible, among other things, for the management and implementation of transportation projects, development and large infrastructure, urban development and the construction of educational and public buildings throughout the city.
Key milestones in Moriah’s work plan for 2021:
Execution of the infrastructure works of the light rail: Completion of the red line extension – During 2021, the infrastructure works – Infrared 1 of the red line extension (existing line) are expected to be completed with the completion of the last two sections – in the southern part to the hospital tower at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and in the northern part to the Neve Yaakov neighborhood. The final length of the red line is about 22 km. Construction of the Green Line – All sections of the Green Line, the second train line in Jerusalem, are under construction and some have even been completed. The Green Line, about 19 km long, will begin on the university campus Hebrew on Mount Scopus and will end in the Gilo neighborhood. In addition, the line will include additional extensions to the Givat Shaul neighborhood and the Malcha neighborhood.
The level separation project at the French Hill junction: In the second quarter of 2021, Moria will begin mining 4 tunnels with a total length of 4.5 km and a maximum depth of about 40 meters, below three main junctions – French Hill Junction, Tombs Junction and Coca-Cola Junction. This is the largest transportation project In recent years in North Jerusalem that will bring significant relief to traffic congestion in the area.
Sakharov Interchange Project: During 2021, the new Sakharov Interchange project, which will be opened to traffic in its final configuration, will be fully completed.
The entrance project to the city – Sderot Shazar (parking lot and portals)During 2021, the skeleton work of the 5-story underground parking lot, which contains about 1,300 parking spaces, is expected to be completed on Shazar Boulevard. In addition, the project includes a level separation for public transportation and private vehicles and an underground passage for pedestrians.
Tunnel Road Doubling Project (60): The project includes mining and construction of two new tunnels alongside the existing tunnels, construction of a bridge and the addition of two traffic lanes in each direction and a rotating public transport lane.
American Road Project: This is the largest infrastructure project carried out in East Jerusalem since the unification of the city, which includes the construction of a central longitudinal road connecting the neighborhoods in the east of the city from north to south and south to north. The project is about 10 km long.
Construction of public transport routes: Establishment of public transportation routes and public transportation routes on major arteries in the city. Among the main projects: Natz Sderot Begin (south) and Natz from the entrance to the city via Jeremiah Street and Shamgar-Shefa Chaim to Har Hotzvim.
Bus terminal and parking lot 4/9: A project to build a bus terminal in North Jerusalem at the Golda Meir interchange. The project includes the construction of a passenger terminal and a bus parking lot for urban and suburban lines. The bus parking lot will cover about 20 dunams and will include about 215 parking spaces for buses.
Construction of educational buildings and public buildings: Construction of 17 new educational buildings in the east and west of the city, including 122 new school classrooms and 7 kindergartens, some of which will be delivered towards September 2021, for the opening of the next school year. Also in the framework of the work plan for 2021, various projects of construction of public buildings in the city are included.
Urban development: Execution of development projects in the new neighborhoods such as property tax slopes (development of public areas, infrastructure, road system, etc.), construction of new playgrounds, parks and public gardens such as upgrading Sucker Garden, sports fields, construction of bicycle and walking paths, upgrading streets and more.
