Israel’s women’s team finished today (Sunday) in the World Cup qualifiers, after a 31:24 loss to Ukraine, in the third and decisive game of promotion to the playoffs. Earlier, the team defeated the host Luxembourg and lost yesterday against Slovakia. Shir and Karat stood out with 8 goals, Mor Shaul 7, Amit Isaac and Shira Jerby 3 each, Tali Barel 2 and Keren Teplitzky 1.
The women’s team is now faced with another task: the first stage of the European Championship qualifiers to be held at the end of May in the Faroe Islands (the team will meet the host and Finland, with the first at home qualifying for the second stage of the qualifiers).
In another matter, tomorrow (Monday) the first round games of the State Cup will take place: MK Beer Sheva against Hapoel Kiryat Ono (19:30), AK Ness Ziona against Maccabi Dimona (20:00), Maccabi Rishon LeZion against Urbani Rehovot (20:15), Maccabi Tel Aviv against Kiryat Motzkin (20:30) and MK Holon against Bnei Herzliya (20:30). The five winners will be drawn in the quarterfinals, along with AS Ramat Hasharon, Hapoel Rishon LeZion and Hapoel Ashdod – who qualified for the top three at the end of the first round of the Premier League.
The four quarter-final matches will take place on Friday. The semi-finals will be held on Monday, April 5 at the Travest Hall in Raanana, and the final is expected to take place during April or the beginning of May, after the Israeli national team’s break.
