The threats succeeded: the West withdrew from the demand to condemn Iran

Towards the resumption of negotiations on the nuclear agreement? Britain, Germany and France have decided today (Thursday) to abandon efforts to condemn Iran under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations, Reuters reported.

The countries acted with the backing of the United States to condemn Iran’s recent conduct in violating the nuclear agreement it signed, in a decision by the 35 member states on the board of directors of the Atomic Energy Agency. Iran has threatened that if the decision is made, it will increase the rate of uranium enrichment and nullify the understandings it reached with the agency last month.

The decision to abandon the draft resolution probably stems from a certain shift in Tehran’s position on the resumption of talks. A senior French diplomatic source told Reuters. According to the source, Tehran sent “encouraging messages” that it would agree to participate in informal talks on the United States’ return to the nuclear deal. “Things are moving in the right direction and we have received very positive messages in the last week and especially in the last two days,” the source said.

The chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, announced today that he would visit Iran in early April to hold “technical talks” aimed at whitewashing Tehran’s violations and setting a course of action for Iran’s return to the agreement. “Iran has been given a second chance to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The United States will reconsider its conduct within the agency’s board of directors in accordance with Iran’s actions. ”

The one who so far does not officially broadcast any messages of reconciliation is Iran itself. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said this morning during an Interior Ministry ceremony that his country would not enter into any new negotiations over the nuclear deal. “The International Atomic Energy Agency is not a place for political games,” the Iranian president said.
