The SpaceX Dragon team will break the U.S. record for most days in space on February 7th

NASA has announced that U.S. astronauts living aboard the ISS orbital will break the record on Sunday for most days in space with a crew aboard a spacecraft US spacecraft. The astronauts Victor Glover, Mike Hopkins and Shannin Walker, and Soichi Noguchi of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), had brought the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft to a U.S. model on November 16, 2020. They will pass record for 84 days set by the Skylab 4 team in 1974.

The team’s SpaceX Dragon spacecraft was named ‘Resilience’ according to the teamwork and effort put in by the group of astronauts to prepare for the mission. The mission is called Crew-1 and is the first active flight in SpaceX’s Crew Dragon astronaut taxi. The astronauts are expected to spend six months at the orbiting laboratory before returning to Earth.

Space enthusiasts may remember that NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley were the first Crew Dragon passengers, which took them to the ISS on May 30, 2020. The two astronauts had spent 62 days at the International Space Station as part of the Dragon Crew Demo- 2 missions. After an extensive study of flight data, NASA confirmed the first ever commercial spacecraft system to transport humans to and from space. The Dragon Crew, incorporating the Falcon 9 rocket and its associated ground systems, is the first new NASA-certified crew spacecraft for regular astronaut flights since spaceship nearly 40 years ago.

Meanwhile, in addition to breaking the record, the U.S. space agency also announced that fans of the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida, could see ISS Sunday. According to a press release, the space station’s orbital orbit will take it within sight of Tampa, home of the Super Bowl LV, at 7:15 pm EST. The NFL championship game, Super Bowl 55, will put the Kansas City Chiefs defending champion against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
