The opening of Super Nintendo World has been postponed thanks to COVID-19, a new date that has not yet been confirmed

There’s no denying what we’re looking forward to seeing the grand opening of Super Nintendo World. After getting a full view in last month’s special Nintendo Direct, it’s gearing up to be something special for Nintendo fans, but those in Japan will have to wait a little longer. Opening on February 4th, Universal Studios Japan has just confirmed that this has been postponed.

It follows news that Japan’s state of emergency is now being expanded to cover 11 of the country’s 47 prefectures, which includes Osaka. Announced by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, the country has resisted a recent rise in Covid-19 cases across the country and this move had previously targeted Tokyo.

It is expected to wait until February 7 and bring everything according to plan, Universal Studios Japan has confirmed that they will reveal the opening date of Super Nintendo World then.

As we look forward to seeing this theme park in action, it’s no surprise that this has happened. A pandemic is a strange time to push forward with a theme park opening but we will keep you informed when the state of emergency is lifted.
