The next generation Galaxy watches are coming faster than expected

It’s just six months since Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch 3, but we’re already hearing rumors about its successor. It was announced last month that next-generation Galaxy Watch models could support blood glucose level readings. Now, more details regarding the upcoming Samsung smartwatches have been released.

According to a reliable leakster IceUniverse (@UniverseIce), Samsung will release two Galaxy Watch 4 series smartwatches: Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4. The South Korean company seems to be jumping on the model name Galaxy Watch Active 3 this year to introduce the Galaxy Watch Active series according to the Galaxy Watch Series number. Both smartwatches could be released sometime in Q2 of 2021. That’s earlier than Samsung’s standard Q3 release timeframe for its smartwatches.

The next-generation Galaxy Watches are expected to be released in two sizes (with SM-R86x and SM-R87x model numbers) and in Bluetooth and LTE variants. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 supported ECG and Fall Detection, while the Galaxy Watch 3 introduced SpO2 readings. The next-generation Galaxy Watches are reported to provide an unobstructed blood glucose level reading, which means there is no need to pick up a user’s fingers. The only feature that seems to be missing is the skin temperature monitor.

It is also reported that at least one of Samsung’s upcoming smartwatches would move from Tizen to Google’s Wear OS platform. It’s not yet clear whether Samsung has decided to dig its own Tizen platform entirely in terms of Google’s consumption platform or whether it’s just testing the waters right now. However, that would still give Wear OS a huge boost in terms of both sales and popularity.
