The new mutation: Fear in Japan of a mutation diagnosed in tourists from Brazil

Another mutation in the corona virus is causing panic in the East: The Japanese government announced today (Sunday) that a new mutation in the corona virus has been identified among four infected people, tourists who came from Brazil. According to the Japanese Ministry of Health, this is a different mutation from the British and South African ones, and Japan is now studying the new variant and trying to figure out if it is contagious or more dangerous.

The new version is different from those first found in the UK and South Africa, although all three share some common mutation, Takaji Wakita, head of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, said in a briefing to the Japanese media. Wakita explained that they are researching the characteristics of the new mutation, such as the effectiveness of vaccines against it and how severe its symptoms may be.

Meanwhile, the daily situation report published this morning by the National Corona Information Center for the Battle of the Armed Forces shows that the British corona mutation is present to a large extent in the population in Israel.

As you may recall, yesterday the Ministry of Health updated that 4 cases of the South African variant have been identified in Israel. The cases were identified from 15 samples that came to rapid flooring, in the Central Laboratory for Viruses of the Ministry of Health and represent 2 infection chains – one of a person returning from South Africa and one of a family infected with a recurrence.

The search came following an initiated operation led by the Ministry of Health together with the Home Front Command with the aim of locating the mutation early and preventing its spread in the community. The Ministry of Health stated: “It should be emphasized that the various variants cause faster infection but apparently do not cause more serious illness. The Ministry of Health will continue to update with additional findings as they become available.”
