The Ministry of Health makes electronic tagging for people coming abroad

The Ministry of Health on Monday recommended that people arriving in Israel from abroad quarantine at home and receive an electronic tag instead of being sent to state-run quarantine hotels as part of the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The director of the Department of International Relations at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Asher Shalmon said, health officials are currently looking at implementing the policy after the coronavirus cabinet voted to increase the number of daily admissions to Israel from 600 to 2,000.

At a meeting of the Knesset Foundation, Justice and Justice Committee, Shalmon told lawyers that health officials are struggling to send the countless requests to Israel that they receive every day and that they will be able to prevent new variants of COVID-19 from entering the country at the passenger level.

A representative of the Ministry of Health noted that they have promoted electronic tagging of people who came in from abroad for some time, but such a move must be approved by the Knesset plenum.

“We offer people a choice between the hotel option or the electronic option,” Shalmon said.

“We are looking for a way to balance the need to ensure that people do not go against quarantine and their rights. The Ministry of Justice needs legislation, but we believe that this restriction is more better than the hotel options, but some people think differently. “

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health reported Monday morning that 3,446 new coronavirus cases have been diagnosed out of 47,336 tests performed in the past 24 hours, raising Israel’s infection rate at 7.6% .

There are currently 990 COVID-19 patients in hospital in critical condition, 284 of whom are ventilator-connected

The national COVID-19 death toll reached 5,403 deaths.
