A golden image of Donald Trump sparked a stir at the U.S. annual gathering of conservatives in Mexico – a country the former president would often demonize.
The image is bigger than life, with a golden headpiece and a Trump trademark suit jacket with a white shirt and red tie. Video and photos of the surrender carried out through the halls of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, went well on Friday.
The conference is seen as a vital gathering of Republican rights, and this year it has been a symbol of Trump’s continued grip on the party, despite being ousted. the post after two impeachments, seemingly relentless scandal marches and a botched response to the pandemic coronavirus that cost half a million lives in the US.
Now the artist behind Trump’s big statue – Tommy Zegan – has revealed that the object was made in Mexico; a country that has been the target of much of Trump’s racist abuse over his political career, and somewhere he has literally tried to build a wall against it.
“It was made in Mexico,” Zegan told the Politico Playbook newsletter. Zegan, who lives in Mexico on a permanent resident visa, described transporting the monument to CPAC in its entirety to Playbook.
Politico said: “Zegan spent over six months designing the 200lb fiberglass statue with the help of three men in Rosarito. He took it to Tampa, Florida, where it was painted in chrome, and then dragged it from there to CPAC. “
