An untalented Nana ends with a lot of sadness and tears, but it is a fitting decision for a series full of darkness and deception.
WARNING: The following spoilers for Talentless Nana Episode 13, “Revival,” are now streaming on Funimation.
The Japanese title of Nana without talent is Munou and Nana, and the word “munou” can be translated in different ways. In fact, it just points to Nana ‘s lack of power among a group of people with high power. But the word can also mean helplessness, and this last series fully reveals Nana’s helplessness against true evil and true love.
Throughout the season, Nana changed her mind about her intentions and her classmates, especially Michiru. Nana did not kill anyone from the invisible blade arc because of how she cares for Michiru. Nana hoped to oppose this change, but she finally let all defenses in as Michiru worked to ease her guilt over her parents’ death.

As seen in Episode 10, Nana blames herself for the death of her parents because she was carving out of her room and forgot her bedroom window. closed the night they died, apparently as her parents’ murderer entered their house. However, Michiru reminded her that her parents are more likely to have cleaned her room and closed her bedroom window after she fell asleep that night. Michiru manages to believe Nana that she ended up in the murder of her parents by not killing them. With this true accomplishment, Nana is able to move beyond her guilt and genuinely embrace her relationship with Michiru.
The identity of the new secret killer remains unresolved, while Kyoya feels locked in on the real killer, unable to find out what motivated the murderer. kill, so he doesn’t know who they’re going to target next. Nana is full of her newfound emotions, so she forgot to look for more signs of the killer. Fortunately, Jin has been monitoring things and warns Nana that Michiru has left the dorm to meet someone by the beach in the middle of the night.
Nana chases after Michiru but is slowed down by a phone call from her advisor Tsuruoka. He recalls that he still has control over many of her weaknesses, including money raised by Nana for other orphans and her adoptive family, which deeply reflects Nana’s naturalness. . This short scene reveals a lot about Nana’s relationship with Tsuruoka, Nana is very fond of, even scary about Tsuruoka, her situation changes as soon as she hears Tsuruoka’s voice, she even bouncing on the phone. Tsuruoka is incredibly manipulative and ruthless, perfectly suited for someone who had trained Nana.
It has finally been revealed that the real killer is one of Maguo Rentarou Tsurumigawa ‘s henchmen, the one who can do an astral project. His power allows his spirit to leave his body and interact with the world, meaning that he can touch physical things but others cannot touch him. He can only be stopped by attacking his physical body. Rentarou is happy to destroy beautiful and innocent things. It started with Ryuuji, then the animals in the forest and now Michiru.
Just as Rentarou is about to stab Michiru, Nana dives in front of her friend and takes the stab for her. Nana said he was apparently killed by Rentarou because his powers allow his body to remain in Maguo’s room while his ghost commits the murder next door. He opens the window in Ryuuji’s room so he can hear Maguo’s voice and let his spirit back if he needs a conversation. He also sat all the evidence to frame Fuuko.
Nana takes several more turns to stop Rentarou and let Michiru get away. Nana’s plan is to save Michiru while Kyoya finds Rentarou’s body. It would be better if it was the other way around because Kyoya is immortal and Rentarou’s body is unconscious, but Nana convinces him that finding the physical body is the best way dangerous. Nana trusts no one to save Michiru but herself.
Kyoya finally catches Rentarou, but it’s too late. Nana bursts out ready and ready to face death in peace. But gradually Nana is taken back by Michiru ‘s powers, and she is too weak to stop Michiru’ s sacrifice. Michiru’s regenerative power was established in Episode 6 when she tried to revive Tsunekichi, but she was unsuccessful and was subsequently severely weakened. This time, Michiru trades her life for Nana and successfully saves her.
Though built for a while, the scene of Michiru’s death is still one of the most difficult moments in anime lately. Michiru calls on her dead friend Hitomi for strength because she is afraid to face death on her own. Nana feels unworthy of Michiru’s sacrifice but can’t stop her. Michiru dies with a content smile on her face while a devastating Nana embraces her lifeless body. Just as Nana begins to see the little light of life, Michiru’s death once again leaves her completely alone.
This is a sad but appropriate ending Nana without talent. Nana deserves punishment for her crimes, but she also deserves to be judged. Eventually, she got both from Michiru. However, there are still a lot of unsolved plot threads, so hopefully for Season 2.
