The heads of the local government turned to Netanyahu: “Continue your studies in the red and orange cities as well.”

The struggle for the education system: In a move designed to prevent disruption of the education system in dozens of localities across the country, local government leaders Haim Bibbs and Shai Hajaj called on the prime minister not to close education for hundreds of thousands of students. In a letter sent by the two, they stressed that continuing education in all cities “is our duty.” According to the list of red cities published by the Ministry of Education, hundreds of thousands of students in 62 localities, including 25 neighborhoods in Jerusalem, will remain at home after being in schools for only a few days.

Bibbs and Hajjaj sent the letter ahead of the crucial discussion that is expected to take place in the cabinet this coming Sunday. In the letter, the heads of the authorities called for continuing with the studies in all the authorities. They argued that “the activity of educational institutions is not the cause of the outbreak of morbidity and should continue with non-privileged studies, at all costs.”

Haim Bibbs, chairman of the local government center, said: “It is appropriate and obligatory to continue physical activity in the education system and not to interrupt the children’s education routine once again. This is not a privilege – it is our duty. “

Shai Hajaj, chairman of the Center for Regional Councils, said: “The data on the increase in morbidity rates in Corona is worrying, and requires restraint. However, the closure of educational institutions will leave hundreds of thousands of children in their homes without the supervision and enforcement of the restrictions. It is therefore right to return students to educational institutions, while strictly observing the restrictions. This will also prevent further serious damage to studies. “
