Real Madrid struggled, but did their part yesterday (Wednesday) with a small 0-1 win in the away game against Atlanta in the last eight of the Champions League. In doing so, despite the very short roster, the Blancos achieved a good advance towards the home rematch.
Newspaper headlines in Spain celebrated the victory and mainly concentrated on the star who gave it to Real, Perlan Mandy, who scored the only goal of the game in the 86th minute. The “S” crowned the defender’s late goal as the “Golden Gate” on the main page. In “Marca” they went for a lovable pun when they gave Mandy a compliment and put his name on the word “tremendous” (exceptional, tremendous).
In Italy, on the other hand, the main concern was the removal of the controversial red card in the 17th minute to Remo Froiler. In “Gazzetta dello Sport” the headline was “Reds Red”, while in “Totosport” they went with a sharper critique and wrote on the main page “The goddess was robbed”.
