After less than two weeks on the market, AirPods Max got its first third-party accessory on Friday with the release of a WaterField Designs product designed to replace Apple’s highly misleading Smart Case.
WaterField Designs ’AirFods Max Shield Case is a leather clamshell that incorporates the full set of headphones, not just the ear cups. It has a leather exterior, a foam heart, and a sleek interior to shake up your pillows.
It has an external waterproof zipper to carry bundled facilities, such as a charge cable. On the inside, a stretch mesh pocket with a leather pull tab takes full advantage of the negative space under the AirPod Max headband and is perfect for storing a power brick.
Interestingly, the case works with or without Apple’s own Smart Case. If you choose to go without Apple’s case, you can slide the AirPods Max into their own. A set of magnetic “butterfly wings” fits right between the two ear cups, preventing them from hitting each other during travel. Similar to Apple’s Smart Case, the wings put the headset in an ultra-low power state to conserve battery.
If you prefer to carry an Apple case for the track, the magnetic butterfly wings fold horizontally so that they are out of the way so that AirPods Max with a Smart Case can slide in. .
You can cut your headphones in the case by inserting the cable and taking down the double zippers – one from each side – to pull the cable in the middle.
The back of the case is a large stretch-out mesh pocket for extra decoration that you still leave to celebrate.
The new WaterField Designs Max Shield Case is available to order now for $ 99. The first running ships run Dec. 31. They come in wax canvas and chocolate brown or nylon ballistic leather and black, blue or crimson leather.
