Two years after winning the title of the highest-grossing film of all time, “The Avengers: The End of the Game” (Avengers: Endgame) Dismissed from the first place by the movie he overtook in the first place – “Avatar” (Avatar) by James Cameron.

The Disney company, which owns the two films, announced the takeover of the title by “Avatar” after the film was redistributed in China. “Avatar” returned to theaters on Friday, and in the past two days managed to rake in about $ 12.3 million. That amount was enough to surpass the revenues of “The Avengers: End of the Game,” which grossed $ 2.797 billion. Right now, Avatar stands at $ 2.802 billion in revenue.

The re-screening in China began this weekend in 3D and IMAX versions. With few films released to theaters around the world, “Avatar” is the first international film to reach number one on the weekly sales chart in China. So far only local Chinese films have been able to lead the table.

The achievement comes with excellent timing for Cameron, who is working hard on four sequels to “Avatar” that are expected to come out in the coming years. Cameron has actually been working on the pledges ever since the original film came out. Currently, “Avatar 2” is expected to be released in December 2022. After that, more movies will come in 2024, 2026 and 2028.

Marvel Studios congratulated Cameron and Avatar on the resounding victory with a statement that they “love you 3000”, a reference to Tony Stark’s punch line. “End of the Game” director Joe and Anthony Russo added that they “pass the glove back”, another reference to the infinity glove that Thanos wears in their film.

Still, the revenue gap between “Avatar” and “End of the Game” currently stands at just $ 5 million, so we wouldn’t be surprised if in the end the movies are replaced once again at the top of the table. If Marvel decides to release the film that ends the history of “The Avengers” once again, the revenue will surely exceed the 5 million mark. However, the film is being offered for free to Disney Plus subscribers, so there is currently no reason to re-release it.
