2020 will not be remembered as a particularly big year for world tennis for reasons known to all, but also for Roger Federer. The famed tennis player suffered most of the year from injuries and fitness problems, when today (Monday) he announced that he will postpone his comeback and not participate in the upcoming Australian Championships.

Federer, who has won the Grand Slam 20 times in his career, has played a total of six official games over the past year, losing in the Australian semi-final to Novak Djokovic last January. A month later he defeated Rafael Nadal in a showcase match in South Africa and has not seen a ball and a bat since.

Recall in the corona year Federer had to undergo two knee surgeries. His agent Tony Goodsick “Roger has decided not to take part in the Australian Championships. He has made great progress with his knee in recent months. We will start planning the return in the coming days with the intention that Federer will take part in the competitions at the end of February.”
