The collapse continues: Dortmund surrendered to Freiburg

Beginning of an article

Becoming irrelevant this season? Dortmund suffered their eighth loss of 2020/21 tonight (Saturday) with 2: 1 against Freiburg, thus moving even further away from the top teams. Also, in other German league games, Leipzig (0: 3 over Schalke), Wolfsburg (0: 2 over Augsburg) and Leverkusen (2: 5 over Stuttgart) achieved victories and maintained the status quo among the teams trying to get closer to the leader, Bayern Munich.

Freiburg – Borussia Dortmund 1: 2
This is, as mentioned, the eighth loss of the season for Edin Terzic’s team, and the third in the last four rounds when the victory against Augsburg did not help it recover. From the championship fight the Yellows have probably come out, but now the ticket to Europe is also in danger, and something has to happen for them to get back to themselves.

The guest actually threatened much more, with quite a few situations in the first half that did not translate into a goal. At the start of the second half the locals responded with two quick goals, from Jeong Woo-young (49) and Jonathan Schmid (52). The young and talented Yusufa Mokoku (only 16 years old) shrank in the 76th minute and reached a balance of two Bundesliga goals, but it was not enough. Mokoko could have equalized in extra time, but squeezed a save from the goalkeeper.

Schalke – Leipzig 3: 0
Julian Naglesman’s team maintained second place 3 points away from Wolfsburg below. The table closes already with a loss of 14 this season, and it still fails to rise to a double-digit amount of points. Nordi Moquila scored a deep first goal in extra time of the first half, Marcel Savitzer doubled in the 73rd minute from Angelino’s header and Willie Urban finished in the 88th minute.

Augsburg – Wolfsburg 2: 0
This is already the fourth consecutive victory for the Greens, who look to be the safest way to secure their place in Europe next season. Wout and Horst (38) and Bota Baku (59) scored, and although two more goals were disqualified after using the VAR system (two different), the visitors finished with three points without much difficulty.

Leverkusen – Stuttgart 2: 5
After two losses to their rivals at the top (Leipzig and Wolfsburg) in which they also did not win at all, Peter Boss’ side came back to themselves and defeated Stuttgart with a convincing offensive game. That was enough for her to move up to fourth place at least temporarily, and keep herself in top things.

Kerem Demirbey scored a double in the 18th and 31st minutes, and later Leon Bailey (56), Florian Wirtz (68) and Demrai Gray (84) added. Sasha Kładzic shrank twice with his own pair (50 and 77).

Another result: Mainz – Union Berlin 0: 1
