Now that is, friends, how to enter a science year end list. Like everything else in 2020, science had one hell of a year. There were impressive highs, such as the fastest pace of formation of coronavirus vaccines and the closest ever view of us to the surface of the sun, but there were also low levels, such as the virus charge, climate crisis getting worse, and the terrible fall of the iconic Arecibo Observatory dish.
We have concluded the most important science stories of the year. They showcase the best researchers we have been offered, the losses we have suffered, and the warning stories if science is not sustained.
