“The attitude of the media towards us has destroyed my mental health”

The rift between Prince Harry and Duchess Megan Merkel to the royal family employs many, but not much is said in the voices of the two. This weekend, in a special appearance on comedian James Corden’s show, the prince tried to share a bit of the mood that led to the unconventional move.

In an interview with Corden, who was on a tour of Los Angeles on the comedian’s “instruction” on a double-decker bus, Harry said he and his wife had to permanently stop being an active part of the royal family because of the treatment they receive in the media.

“I am much more comfortable with what is shown in the ‘Crown’ series, because it is a series that does not pretend to be news because it has a fictional element, than from what is reported in the media about my family and my wife,” he said. When asked why he decided to leave life as a royalty, he said: “It (life here) is quite similar to what we did there. My life is still for the public service. We want to bring compassion and bring joy to people and change the world in our little way.” He stressed that “we never left, but took a step back.”

Prince Harry noted that the decision stemmed from the infamous mask of the British media, especially about Megan. “It was a very difficult environment, we all know how the British media can behave, and it ruined my mental health and I said to myself ‘it’s toxic’. I did what every husband and father would do in such cases. I said to myself, I need to get my family out of here.”
