The attack on Benjamin: “My wife said to me: ‘Rebecca was injured’, I felt a flashback”

Rivka Teitel, a woman in her thirties, was seriously injured today (Sunday) as a result of stone-throwing on Road 465, near the entrance to Neve Tzof in Binyamin. Moshe Avitan, Rivka’s brother-in-law, said that she was on her way to have a corona examination of two of her children, when after Neve Tzof, in the area of the dissections, she noticed a group of Palestinians throwing stones at them, one of which hit her in the head.

“She lost consciousness. Michael, her 15-year-old son, was resourceful and raised the handbrake so that the vehicle would not deteriorate,” Moshe said. A driver of a car who was driving in the back and noticed what was happening, drove away immediately. “Who knows how it would have ended if she had been alone on the road,” says Moshe.

Avitan said that the incident today took him back 12 years, when he was seriously injured in a shooting attack on Alon Road near Kochav Hashahar. It was his wife Sarah (Rebecca’s sister) who saved them when she replaced him with driver feedback and escaped them from the scene of the attack.

Today, when he received the phone call from his wife who told him that Rebecca was injured in the attack, he felt that he was going back. “She told me to go out urgently, Rebecca was injured and she was in the hospital. I froze. I felt a flashback. I knew nothing, I did not know what her condition was, I hurried out.” The two sisters, Rivka and Sara, both live in Shvut Rachel in Binyamin and the families are very close. Rebecca Teitel has five children, who are currently being cared for by the community’s Tzachi team.

At Sheba Tel Hashomer Hospital, Rivka is currently hospitalized in critical condition. She is vaguely conscious and suffers from a skull crisis and cerebral hemorrhage. However, says Moshe, her condition is stable and the doctors are waiting for the next few hours to determine if she needs surgery. Beside her are her mother, sisters and 17-year-old eldest daughter.

A request was submitted to the Prison Service by the lawyer of Rivka’s husband, Yaakov (Jack) Teitel, who is serving two life sentences for the murder of two Palestinians. Jack, who had not seen his wife since the corona plague began, asked to be allowed out of prison to stay at her bedside. Tonight, Rivka’s family forwarded the medical documents to the IPS in order for them to examine and make a decision on whether to allow her husband, who has not been on vacation since he was arrested 11 years ago, to stay with her.

Meanwhile, the IDF spokesman said that IDF forces are continuing the pursuit of the terrorists, encircling the village of Deir Nizam and blocking deputies in the area of the Ephraim Brigade.
