Despite voting for the next UFC welterweight title, Stephen Thompson is more than happy to welcome Nate Diaz back to the UFC. Wonderboy has admitted that he would be willing to fight someone like Diaz, who he believes is the OG of the fighting game.
Stephen Thompson ‘s last fight was a major blow to Geoff Neal. At the last major UFC event of 2020, Thompson promoted another clinical achievement and proved why he remains one of the best welterweights in the world even in the late 30s.
Speaking to MMA Fighting, Stephen Thomson said he wants to cross paths with someone who is above him or a big name who will help him get that title. Wonderboy said he’s one of the five favorites if he doesn’t get a glimpse of Kammaru Usman.
“Well, my last 3-4 fights have been the guys behind me. I want to get a fight either with someone positioned above me or a big enough name to help me in. So, yes I mean, Colby, anyone in the top five. I’d like to fight, if Usman and I don’t. It’s up to them to be willing to do it. “
Stephen Thomson said he would be open to fighting Colby Covington or Gilbert Burns. Wonderboy would be open to fighting Leon Edwards, too, if his fight against Belal Muhammad falls for some reason.
Thompson also mentioned Nate Diaz as a potential opponent and said he and Diaz hope to return at the same time, sometime in April or May. Wonderboy is clearly happy to welcome OG as Diaz back into the UFC.
“You know, the NMF, Colby Covington, Burns, anyone up there, Leon Edwards, if he has another one falling out, I don’t know what might happen between now and then or even Nate Diaz, if he plans to come in April or May. I hear that’s the kind of timeframe that’s the kind of meal I have as well. So there’s someone like him by name too, who I think is an OG guy. The guy, he’s an OG, that makes sense to me. “

Stephen Thomson competed just once in 2020 when he defeated Geoff Neal. Wonderboy has a run that won two fights in the UFC welterweight division along with recording a win over Vicente Luque at UFC 244.
