Chael Sonnen disagrees with Dustin Poirier ‘s view of Conor McGregor. While appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience, The Diamond had dispelled the idea of fighting a trilogy against Conor McGregor for the lightweight title, citing McGregor’s lack of action and the recent record at Lightweight (0-2). Chael Sonnen took to his YouTube channel to comment on Poirier’s evaluation of The Notorious One. Sonnen believes Conor McGregor is still among the main lights and said the outcome of fights should not be the only criteria to determine a fighter’s place in the title picture.
“I think if anyone has a right to have an idea of what’s going on at 155lb, it’s Dustin Poirier. But that logic is unhelpful to the sport. Dustin Poirier defeated Conor McGregor through TKO in the second round of the UFC 257 expected relegation in January 2021. Both fighters have shown a keen interest in trilogy fighting since the show. The retirement of Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has put Dustin Poirier at the very front of the title picture and there is strong speculation about the possible trilogy fight between Poirier and McGregor happening for the title.

Chael Sonnen believes Dustin Poirier should not compete in another non-titled fight with what he has accomplished in his career so far. Whether Conor McGregor should be in a title bout or not, if Poirier is going to fight McGregor next, Sonnen believes the belt should be up for grabs.
