Testing of patients for coronavirus at Fiona Stanley Hospital in WA

Authorities say they are awaiting the results of a test on a patient who went to Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth (FSH) with a suspected COVID-19.

Perth and parts of Western Australia were locked up on Sunday after a security guard at a Four Points quarantine hotel with Sheraton tested positive for the virus.

WA Health has now said that a second patient has been exposed to FSH in south Perth, but it is not yet known if they are positive for COVID.

However, the Department of Health has warned that the case could be historical which could mean the person was not infectious while in WA.

Hospital staff asked to stay at home until results come in

“The WA health system has processes for managing both suspicious and progressive cases,” a statement from WA Health said.

“A suspicious case that was present at Fiona Stanley Hospital is currently awaiting results for COVID-19.

“Initial information indicates that this is a historical issue that was infectious abroad, not in WA.

“This patient was treated with precautionary measures and transferred to a hotel quarantine, where they will wait until results are returned.

“Fiona Stanley Hospital has asked a number of staff involved in the initial treatment to stay at home, pending the return of patient outcomes.”
