MELBOURNE (Reuters) – After defending her Australian Open title, Sofia Kenin’s trip to Melbourne got even worse on Sunday as America suffered a terrible loss with unnamed local teenager Olivia Gadecki in the second round of the Phillip Island Cup.

Three days earlier, Kenin had admitted he was struggling under the defensive pressure of his mermaid Grand Slam title as he was kidnapped 6-3 6-2 by Estonian Kaia Kanepi at Margaret Court Arena.

Kenin went on to bring a wild card into the WTA 250 event, which also took place on Melbourne Park grounds, but was knocked down by the Gadecki 2-6 7-6 (4) 6-4 , 18-year-old.

Gadecki saved two rest points in the last game before serving for the maximum benefit of his new career.
