Tel Aviv University Researchers at the Top of the World | Tel aviv university

A new study by researchers at the prestigious Stanford University examined who are the top 2% of researchers in the world in the various fields. The total list contains about 160,000 researchers from 149 countries in 22 scientific disciplines and 176 sub-fields.

According to the list, 333 faculty members at Tel Aviv University appear among 2% of the leading researchers (in terms of articles, citations and impact) in the various scientific fields. 155 of them appear in the first percentile (1%), and 74 in the top half percent (0.5%).

Tel Aviv’s achievement even intensifies when you look at the TOP 50 in each field: according to Stanford University’s rankings, 14 Tel Aviv University researchers appear on the list of the 50 best researchers in the world in their field.

Prof. Yitzhak Gilboa of the School of Economics is ranked 6th in the world among researchers in the field of theoretical economics, and his friend Prof. (Emeritus) David Schmidler of the School of Mathematics is ranked 12th in the same field in the world. Prof. Iska Cohen Mansfield of the Faculty of Medicine was ranked 12th in the world in the field of geriatrics. Three faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering are highly ranked: Prof. Emilia Friedman, 26th in her field, Prof. Emeritus Gideon Dagan (29) and Prof. Boris Malmud (29).

Prof. Emeritus Micha Sharir from the School of Computer Science was ranked 35th and Prof. Arie Livnat from the School of Mathematics was ranked 36th. Four faculty members from the Faculty of Humanities are ranked in the respected group: Prof. Emeritus Rachel Giora from the Department of Linguistics in 40th place, Prof. Israel Finkelstein from the Department of Archeology in 44th place, Prof. Emeritus Benjamin Isaac from the Department of Classical Studies in 45th place in his field, and Prof. Emeritus Ilana Shohami from the School of Education was ranked 47th in the world.
