Tel Aviv University is launching a new and multidisciplinary center for artificial intelligence (AI) and data science (DS), headed by Prof. Meir Feder, from the Ivy and Elder Fleischman Faculty of Engineering. The center will deepen basic research in these fields, and encourage multidisciplinary research. Areas that use the most advanced methods in AI and DS, and will train the generation of researchers and industry people who will march Israel in the coming years to stand at the forefront of the global AI revolution.
Integrating research with industry and community
“The establishment of the AI Center is another pillar of the University’s vision to promote groundbreaking, multidisciplinary research that combines the university’s best researchers with the knowledge-intensive industry and community,” says Tel Aviv University President Prof. Ariel Porat Areas for epidemic research and during the coming year we intend to establish additional multidisciplinary centers, such as the Center for Climate Change Research and the Center for Aging Research. Prof. Meir Feder emphasizes that “the AI revolution is expected to affect all lifestyles, from drug-based medicine and personal medicine design, to defense and security systems, financial systems, scientific discoveries, robotics and autonomous systems and social issues. In addition, human capital training is of great importance. “Therefore, the center will provide basic education in the field for every student studying at the university.”
He said the center is expected to include hundreds of researchers and will promote multidisciplinary research collaborations with scientists from across campus. The center will also promote collaborations with military and public bodies in industry and the community, and with leading universities and research institutes around the world. He also adds that in March, the center will inaugurate a collaboration with Google Israel, as part of their AI for Social Good program.
