Technological continuation track “Trend for the future”

In the coming school year, a technological education program for young people with disabilities, 12th graders at ORT Hermelin College, will open for the first time in Netanya.

The “Trend for the Future” program is a 3-year study program designed for young people with disabilities aged 18-21 who want to acquire professional technological certification with an emphasis on employment experience during training.
According to Esti Yosef, director of the special education department at the municipality, the program will last 3 years and its goals: Development of employment capacity and studies leading to certification, where participants will enjoy a rich package of professionals and a diverse program that includes theoretical studies, workshops, individual work, tours, courses and work experience. Significant and workshops with parents. The studies will open in September this year and will offer two technology study majors to choose from: ICT systems specializing in graphic applications, as well as a major in photography and editing systems.

Students with special needs who are studying in the twelfth grade this year, who studied in an integration program, in a special education class or in a special education school and passed successfully (passing grade) in two core subjects. Candidates will also go through additional screening processes.

The program is the result of a joint initiative between special education and technological education at the Ministry of Education, through ORT Hermelin College, led by the college’s principal, Dr. Ariel Horin, and in collaboration with the Special Education Division of the Municipal Education Administration and Tel Aviv Netanya. Additional partners: the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Services, JDC Israel, the National Insurance Funds, Alvin Israel, Atid and Gvanim.

The mayor, Miriam Feierberg-Icher, noted that as part of the municipality’s policy on the subject, the Education Administration, headed by Tova Dolev, is working to expand the response to students with special needs in the cognitive and emotional field and prepare for independent living.

An evening of exposure to the program (Bezom) will be held on January 25, 21 at 6:00 p.m.
