Teenager Clara Tauson’s run continued at the Open 6ème Sens – Métropole de Lyon with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Camila Giorgi to reach her first WTA semifinal in an hour and 10 minutes.
Tauson World No.139 is competing in its third major WTA draw and has yet to lose more than four games per set in any of its five games this week. The Dane, who slammed No.1 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round, has also made a nine-game winning streak after capturing the ITF W25 Altenkirchen title last month, and has the 2021 record 17-3 so far.
In Friday’s quarter-quarter Tauson was gaining control both from baseline and on service. In the cagy opening aisle of play an early exchange was broken, but after Tauson grabbed a hand-held return winner to take a 3-2 lead, she took control of the game.
After that, the 18-year-old would lose just six more points behind his delivery, shooting six asses in total. Three of those came in the final game while serving the win in authoritarian fashion.

In contrast, World No.81 Giorgi would have been plastered with eight double cracks, and was more prone to error as the game drew on. Overall, Tauson’s game proved more accurate. The former World No.1 was able to not only create a great distance on his front wing but also take away a number of good winners from defensive positions as well.
Tauson will face either No.4 seed Kristina Mladenovic or No.7 Paula Badosa seed as she seeks to reach her first final.
