Takumi Minamino’s call is ‘nonsense,’ says the Southampton manager

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl says it is “strange” that Japan’s Takumi Minamino will be asked to travel for international duty due to the pandemic of coronavirus.

Minamino, on loan from Liverpool, is expected to join the Japan squad for a friendly next week against South Korea in Yokohama.

The game had already taken a toll on Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho after he named Son Heung-min in the South Korean squad despite being sidelined with a leg injury against Arsenal on Sunday.

Now Hasenhuttl has added his voice to the protests about the return of international matches while the virus remains a global problem.

“I expect Minamino’s tour to happen, although there are big rides and long journeys, which I don’t like to see, but it’s the way it is, and there are a few more players going,” Hasenhuttl.

“Actually, when you see how difficult it is to travel right now, what loops they have to jump through when they come back to be available again, this is a bit of a joke for me. .

“We are not allowed to leave the country for any reason, and then they are flying around the world in a pandemic, I can see no reason why you should do this.

“It simply came to our notice then. I can’t accept it but if the players have been available with us and for our game, hopefully this is true. “
