Syrian soldier killed in Israeli attack near Damascus | Conflict News

Three others were injured in the attack on Syrian air defense forces in Nabi Habeel district, Syrian state media reported.

One Syrian soldier has been killed and several others injured in an Israeli attack on an armed situation in the Damascus country near the Zabadani Valley, state news agency SANA says, citing an arms source.

“Today at 01:30 (22:30 GMT) Israeli enemy launched an air strike with missile explosions from northern Galilee, targeting a unit of our air defense forces in the Nabi Habeel area,” an army source said Wednesday .

“Our air defense fired against some of the missiles, which resulted in one martyr and three soldiers wounded.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in Britain said the number of injured had risen by five, two of them in grave condition.

The raids had also targeted and destroyed Hezbollah rockets and military bases near the city of Zabadani near the Lebanese border, a war analyst said.

Observatory leader Rami Abdel Rahman said pro-Iranian groups will use the arms around Zabadani to store weapons and ammunition.

“Hezbollah uses (the area) as a storage area before arms and ammunition are transported into Lebanon,” he said.

Israel refused to confirm or deny the attack.

“We will not comment on foreign media reports,” an army spokesman told AFP.

Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes in Syria since the start of the civil war in 2011, targeting government troops, Iranian friendly forces and fighters from the Lebanese Hezbollah group.

He rarely confirms details of his operations in Syria but says Iran’s presence in support of President Bashar al-Assad is a threat to his continued response.

This is the second Israeli attack in Syria in the past week.

Last Thursday, Syrian media reported that air defense systems responded to another Israeli air attack in the northwest of the country.

Four buildings, part of an arms factory in Masyaf, where the attack took place, were damaged.
