State TV says Syrian air defenses were resisting ‘Israeli invasion’, engulfing and dropping missiles over Hama.
Syrian air defenses have blocked Israeli missiles over the western region of Hama, the Syrian state TV said early Friday, citing an arms statement.
A “barrage of missiles” was directed from the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli at 12:40 am (22:40 GMT) on Friday, the statement said, which led the attack as an “Israeli attack”. The rockets were aimed at the town of Masyaf in Hama country, the military said.
“Our air guards seized the missiles and put down most of them,” he said.
SANA official news agency reported explosions in Masyaf.
There was no immediate comment from Israel.
Shortly before the raid, Israeli warplanes were heard flying over nearby Lebanon, with some Beirut residents reporting that they saw missiles in the skies over the city.
Israel regularly opposes Lebanese air space and has launched hundreds of wars in Syria since the start of the civil war in 2011. The attacks have hit government troops, friendly forces Iran and fighters from the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
