The first swimming competition since the quarantine closed today (Saturday) at the Wingate Institute National Pool, with the second round of the Youth and Seniors League (three months after the first round). About 650 swimmers were divided into four different capsules and provided quite a few fast times, especially in relation to this period of the season.

The perpetual fascinating battle in the 200 personal medley, which will accompany us all the way to Tokyo, was decided this time in favor of Yaakov Tomarkin. The Olympic finalist set a time of 2: 03.77, ahead of Gal Cohen Gromi and Ron Polonsky. The quality result of the weekend came from Michael Leitrovsky, who won the 50 backstroke with 25.55 and was ahead of Jonathan Kopalev by 4 tenths. Bar Soloveitchik also provided a quick result in the 400 free, which he won in a time of 3: 54.57.

In the women the qualitative result of the cycle belongs to Zohar Shikler, who won the 50 free in a time of 25.80 and continues to show stability. Leah Polonsky recorded a double victory in the 200 individual medley (2: 19.41) and in the 100 butterfly (1: 02.57) and Aviv Barzali won the 50 backstroke with 29.62 s, close to her personal best.

Along with the competition, the Israeli team is currently starting another training camp in Tenerife, after completing the second vaccination of all male and female swimmers of the appropriate age. The camp will be led by the union’s senior advisor and San Diego Center of Excellence coach, David Marsh, team coach Luca Gabriello, assistant coach and Wingate Center of Excellence coach Ehud Segal, and Maccabi Haifa coach Hanan Sterling. Along with the team, swimmers and swimmers from other senior teams will also train, which will ensure a camp at a particularly high level. At the end, the team will fly to Sweden and compete in the Stockholm Open Championship.
