Violence in Arab society continues to claim victims: Today (Friday) police opened an investigation on suspicion of murder in Umm al-Fahm, after a 21-year-old city resident died at a hospital shortly after arriving there, according to the suspect, following a shooting incident. Police arrived at the scene of the incident and collected findings and are now scanning the area in search of the perpetrators of the crime.
Yesterday, the police arrested three people, aged 33-20, after a “Uzi” weapon and ammunition were discovered in their vehicle. The three were taken in for questioning and then brought before a judge in order to extend their detention.
Earlier this month, the data for 2020 were published, according to which there has been a significant increase in the scope of enforcement of weapons offenses in Arab society in Israel. Last year, the police increased their activity against weapons offenses and arrested 5,713 suspects in firearms and weapons throughout the country – an increase of about 22% in the number of detainees compared to 2019. As you may recall, in December the violence in Arab society escalated when within a few hours a conflict between two families in Lod led to the murder of three people. From a vehicle speeding towards them, shots were fired at the family vehicles, killing two passengers in front of the police.
