Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Smash World Tour is back for 2021 with a grand prize pool and hybrid tourney style

After a disappointing 2020, World Round Smash is back.

Last year, VGBootCamp and several other well-known event organizers came together to create a worldwide tour with a $ 250,000 prize pool – the largest in Smash history. It was interesting news for the Smash community, who felt that this was their chance to be taken seriously as an esport and to see some publicity and money.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 put an end to that dream when all personal events were canceled. But this year, Smash World Tour has been prepared with a new “hybrid format” that will allow players to compete both in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Ultimate.

“I was surprised to hear it was coming back. I thought they gave it up because they can’t make money in Smash,” William “Leffen” told Hjelte. “This is literally the biggest thing that could ever be named.”

Smash Earth Tour schedule and format

The hybrid form of Smash World Tour includes area-locked Online Warrants and regional finals around the world.

Super Smash Bros. contestants. Ultimate participates in the area-locked online credentials. The 16 winners will advance to the finals. For Melee, Smash World Round will be responsible for a “panel of community leaders” across each region to select 16 Regional Finals based on competition results in 2020 and 2021.

In Level 2, players from each region will compete at personal events to find out who qualifies for the Smash World Cup finals. Prizes at these events will be $ 60,000 together. In total, 32 players in each game will be eligible for Level 3.

Level 3 is the final rounds, of course. Top Melee and Ultimate players worldwide will compete for $ 150,000 (at least). The Smash World Tour page did not specify whether this will be personal either, but it is very likely that COVID-19 will not allow a safe way to do so, just like Level 2.

“While we can’t accept that major community events will be back at a significant time in 2021, we are thrilled to be back! While we will have to wait until 2022 to return to the original tour format, we will be focusing on community events at every stop of the Tour this year! “Said the official Smash World Tour page.

There are already three events around the corner. The Qualifier Online Mexico launches on March 13. The next one is the Qualia Online Oceania on March 20th. The top finalists in South Central America will fight out on March 27, also an online Testimonial.

Here is the full list. Registration for any of the upcoming competitions is free. Register and find out more on the Smash.gg page at the Smash World Tour.

Nintendo is not currently involved in Smash World Tour (shock).
