Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is at No.1 for the second week in a row.
The exclusive Nintendo Switch fell 61% compared to the previous week, which is a strong result for a game on its second week on the charts. The Wii U remaster is comfortably the best new game of the year (so far).
It maintains strong competition from FIFA 21, which has experienced another rise in sales as a result of its recent price cuts. Box sales of the game jumped 140% last week, and this week it has spun another 59%.
Also up is Mario Kart 8: Deluxe. Switch’s lack of standard stock hit the market last week, with only bundle options available, and Mario Kart was pretty obvious. The game rose 19% in sales and will move from No.5 to No.3.
This means that Animal Crossing: New Horizons falls to No. 4, its lowest position so far this year, with a 4% drop in weekly sales.
Call of Duty is the culmination of the Top Five: Black Ops Cold War, which rose to prominence despite sales declining 9% weekly.
There is a real shortage of games over the next month or two, with a handful of Switch releases and not much else. Bravely Default 2 is on Switch out next week, and Monster Hunter: Rise arrives at the end of March. The first major PS5 and Xbox Series games of the year won’t be coming until May, with Returnal, Resident Evil: Village and Deathloop the first famous games.
As a result, we can expect that price discounts and the arrival of new token stock for all three major platforms will have a significant impact on this corporate sales chart.
