Suarez stopped in the 20th minute against Getafe on Wednesday, looking clean in Yannick Carrasco’s delivery for a strike that would be the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for Atletico.
Uruguay’s goal ensured Diego Simeone’s 500th game over Atletico would win, with the capital club extending their lead at the top of La Liga over rivals Real Madrid.
For Suarez, it was his eighth league goal in 11 games since joining Atletico of Barcelona in the summer, equaling the mark Falcao set in 2011 after the man- Colombia struggled to join the club from Porto.
He could easily have the ninth in the first half against Getafe, leading the ball over the bar from 15 yards shortly after the opener scored.

Suarez has managed his quick start at Atletico despite missing a month of the season due to Covid-19, returning in early December after missing much of November .
The 33-year-old left Camp Nou after surprisingly being left as requirements by new Barca manager Ronald Koeman in the summer.
Suarez ‘s departure still worries his longtime teammate and friend Lionel Messi, who has spoken out against the move in the past and repeated in an interview with La Sexta on Sunday.
“I had thought about it before Luis Suarez [left], but that was crazy, “Messi said.” I didn’t like the way it went. I didn’t think he deserved to be gone like that. He went free to a team that is fighting for the same things as us. “
Atletico will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Alaves in La Liga. Simeone’s men are running for their first league title since 2013-14 as they look to end six straight years of leadership with rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Simeone ‘s side have also reached the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face Chelsea in a two – legged tie in February and March.
