In just over a decade, Sony has transformed their E-mount lenses from a small collection of glass to one of its greatest strengths, and today Sony announces its 60th E-mount lens: the main lens FE f / 1.2 50mm G Master.

T.ef / 1.2 G Master sports a $ 2,000 price tag and yes definitely a lens aimed at hardware enthusiasts and pros, with its f / 1.2 aperture offering the widest aperture available on any Sony E-Mount lens yet to be created.

Sony claims the 50mm f / 1.2 GM, which is featured three true aspherical elements, will delivery shallow depth of field, sharp focus, and clarity to the edges of the frame even when fired open, while having an 11-blade circular opening system give super smooth bokeh and cream.

As usual, the f / 1.2 50mm GM comes with serial focus motors that are delivery fast and quiet autofocus performance with minimal vibration. T.it offers its own lens minimum focus distance of 1.3 feet.

But perhaps more importantly, the f / 1.2 50mm GM is still relatively complex and light, measuring 3.5 x 4.375 inches and measuring 27.5 ounces, while still absorbing dust and water and a fluorine-coated face element to help cut down on fingerprints.

The big picture: With all that is already the largest collection of native lenses for its high-frame full-mirror cameras, Sony seems to be expanding its lead in glass while companies like Canon and Nikon rely on old lenses from their DSLR days while working on replacing glass for their RF and Z-mount mirror cameras.

Sony FE f / 1.2 50mm G Master is expected to go ahead sometime in May.
