Sony has introduced its next Virtual Reality Controller (VR) for the PlayStation 5 console, a controller that abandons the PlayStation Move design and comes in a design more similar to other virtual reality controllers on the market, with a noticeable visual difference in the form of round “hand shields”, Which come as part of the overall round design of the controller, in addition to the features taken from the PlayStation DualSense controller.

Sony has launched its PlayStation 5 console towards the end of 2020, but the company’s only virtual reality solution comes in the form of the PlayStation VR launched in 2016, along with the company’s old PlayStation Move controller which comes in the form of a “stick” with a colored ball At its edge, the design is light years away from modern VR critics such as those of the Oculus Quest 2 which we also reviewed on the site.

Sony’s new VR controllers come in a much more ergonomic design than the previous generation, for a more comfortable grip, with the simplest description of their design being a ball shape that has been emptied and attached to a physical controller. The controllers use “adaptive” triggers, similar to the PS5’s DualSense controller, which allow a sense of “tension” in their squeezing. They come with finger touch recognition and space tracking capability for the company’s VR glasses.

While Sony has introduced the new VR controllers, the company has not yet introduced the next generation of VR glasses that are expected to come with them, as at the moment there is no launch expectation or price for the company’s next VR controllers and glasses.

The new design of Sony’s VR controllers suggests that the company will try to increase its presence in the virtual reality market, a market currently dominated largely by Facebook with its Oculus brand. All that is left to do is wait for Sony’s next announcement that is expected to showcase the company’s next glasses and the capabilities it has incorporated into them.
