Smutrich: “Naftali Bennett and I say goodbye to each other”

Knesset member and head of the National Union Party, Bezalel Smutrich, announced tonight (Monday) that he intends to split from Naftali Bennett’s right-wing list and run separately in the Knesset elections.

“Naftali and I are parting ways,” Smutrich told the Marciano Foundation in News 12. The right-wing faction said: “Smutrich chose to split the right tonight. We wish him success along the way.”

People close to Bennett told Israel Today yesterday that on Friday he submitted a proposal to Smutrich, according to which he would receive three places for his men in the top ten of the list. Remember, Smutrich demands four places and Bennett offers two places.

According to Bennett, they did not receive a response to the offer, but received a blunt and sharp interview by Smutrich against Bennett tonight. Bennett’s entourage insisted that no such offer was accepted, claiming: “Things never were.”

“Bennett has brought religious Zionism to the lowest place it has ever been,” Smutrich said on Saturday. “The only consideration will be the coalition composition through which we can promote and uphold some values that are important to religious Zionism, to take care of it, to take responsibility for the State of Israel as we think we are right. I am the only national religious party.”
