Sketch report says Apple Car is years ahead of schedule, which will be debated next year

Apple’s long-haul electric vehicle is running at least two years ahead of schedule and will be released in the third quarter of 2021, according to Taiwan’s Daily economic news, which names unnamed officials of Taiwanese manufacturers.

The report alleges that Taiwanese manufacturers are preparing to ramp up to roll out “Apple Car” components as early as the second quarter of next year, adding that Apple has been secretly testing dozens of prototype vehicles on the road in California. Apple received a license from DMV California to test self-driving vehicles in 2017, and was spotted using Lexus SUVs with LiDAR equipment that year.

While many sources have claimed that the Apple Car will be released between 2023 and 2025, including analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the report cites an unnamed director of a major manufacturer in Taiwan said Apple aims to launch in September 2021.

While nothing is possible, the earlier timeline is questionable, especially given the impact of the pandemic. Earlier this month, a DigiTimes A report says Apple was in “initial” talks with car electronics suppliers, suggesting its vehicle project is still at a very early stage. The report said Apple chipmaker TSMC reportedly works with Apple on a “self-driving chip.”

Over the years, reports have shifted out whether Apple is developing a fully-fledged vehicle or working on artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technologies for vehicles in general. Apple’s head of artificial intelligence, John Giannandrea, recently took over the project, according to Bloombergis Marc Gurman.

With manufacturers often announcing all-new vehicles years in advance, one chance is that the Apple Car will be previewed at the end of 2021, but not released. For now, however, the report should be treated with a healthy dose of complaint.

Daily economic news history is mixed with Apple rumors. The announcement rightly revealed that Apple would be releasing a rebuilt iPhone 8 in March 2020, nearly a year before the second-generation iPhone SE was unveiled, and it was also slowing down the 11-inch iPad Pro . On the other hand, the announcement erroneously stated that high-end Mac gaming would be debating at WWDC 2020 and that AirPods Pro would come in a number of colors.
