The memory chip maker SK Hynix has announced the start of mass production of 18GB LPDDR5 memory chips, the highest volume in the industry today, with the first (almost) mobile device to arrive with the high memory volume will be ASUS ‘ROG Phone 5.
The new LPDDR5 chip offers a new record in the memory capacity of mobile devices, as it replaces the previous 16GB LPDDR5 chips, such as that of Samsung. The new memory chip will offer a particularly high data transfer speed of 6400Mb / s, an improvement of about 20% compared to the previous generation of chips which offered a speed of 5500Mb / s.
SK Hynix’s new announcement actually also confirms the information circulating on the net that ASUS’s ROG Phone 5 device, which will be announced tomorrow (10.3), will also be available in an 18GB memory version, using the new SK Hynix LPDDR5 chip along with Snapdragon 888 chipset.

However, while the ASUS device was supposed to be the “first” with 18GB of memory, Nubia overtook it with the introduction of the RedMagic 6 Pro device earlier this month, which came with the option of 18GB of memory even though no chipmaker announced such a volume Until the current announcement of SK Hynix.
