Silverstone hopes for a full-fledged British GP in July

Silverstone hopes to be able to welcome 140,000 fans to the British Grand Prix in July.

The July 18 event is expected to take place four weeks after the proposed dates for the UK government to end Covid-19 restrictions in England.

To fill gaps in the record that caused the pandemic, Silverstone held two races in 2020 – the British Grand Prix and the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix – but both took place behind closed doors. This year it will go back to hosting one race as usual.

Tour leader Stuart Pringle is still cautious about the potential of a full house but said the venue benefits from the fact that fans can spread out over a large area.

“A full crowd is still completely on the table,” Pringle told the Media Association. “Silverstone is not a tight stadium in the same way as a football stadium or tennis court.

“Our 70,000 grandstand seats are spread out over three and a half miles. We have a lot of space, we really are an outdoor space, we have a lot of access and exit.

“Anything is possible, but it has also been made clear that it is far from certain.”

Pringle added that Silverstone recorded an increase in ticket sales after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson finally announced Covid’s restrictions.

Lewis Hamilton has won six of the last seven British medical events. The British driver is looking to bid for the eighth highest competition in the world this season.

The 2021 season begins with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28th.
