Abtissam Hamid, an Kuwaiti actress and singer known by the stage name “Basma al-Kuwaiti”, caused a huge stir in the country when she announced today (Wednesday) that she denies Islam and converts to Judaism.
Al Kuwaiti announced in the video that she intends to convert and that she denies Islam because it violates women’s rights and desecrates their dignity. The country’s media defined her remarks as “heresy words.”

The singer was not content with criticizing Islam and also condemned the ruling family in the country: “I want to declare my opposition to the Sabah family, which rejects normalization with Israel, stands against religious freedom in the country and against freedom of speech.”
The singer’s words caused a stir in the country, and along with a long chain of defenders and accusers, there are also those who defended her words on social media, or found justifications for them. “This is a sad day for Islam and it is not her fault,” an anonymous surfer was quoted as saying in the country’s media. Another surfer named Ahmad al-Haya wrote: “When one does not know the true Islam, and judges it from the behavior of some Muslims, it is easy to reject it and leave it. Allah, help people to see the true Islam.”
The singer’s storm comes less than a month after a popular presenter on one of the country’s television networks announced that she was converting to Christianity, a message that drew a lot of condemnation and even death threats.
