Settlement to an open vaccination area for Palestinian workers

Ariel’s arrangement on the West Bank will open a special coronavirus vaccination center for Palestinian Authority workers, his mayor said Wednesday.

Mayor Ariel Eliyahu Shaviro said the Ministry of Health had given permission for the vaccines to be given to Palestinian workers after he was put under “prolonged pressure”.

“It is important to emphasize that we are working with the Palestinians, and that the fact that the Palestinian Authority will not vaccinate its citizens is a health risk to the Israeli people,” Shaviro said. PA had maintained the small number of vaccines for politicians and sports stars.

The center was due to open next week.

Shaviro said Palestinian workers would not allow the vaccine not to enter the city.

The IDF’s coordination of government actions in the Territories (COGAT) announced last week that it would launch a vaccination campaign for workers coming from the PA to Israel.

The COGAT initiative involves the establishment of specialized centers at several routes between Israel and the West Bank and in industrial zones throughout the region.

The workers will receive the Moderna vaccine from Israeli medical teams.

Israel also provided 5,000 vaccines from its stock to protect PA medical workers, but said only 2,000 have been taken so far.
