Serena Williams says she knows Oprah’s interview was not easy for Meghan Markle

Serena Williams continues to show her support for Meghan Markle after telling the Duchess an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Shortly after the conversation about Markle – in which she described her behind – the – scenes struggles with the royal family and the British media – Williams released a statement of support on Instagram. Now, in a new conversation with Stuart Weitzman’s Shine Series (she is the global spokesperson for the brand), Williams opens up about why she decided to speak out.

“Meghan is a great person and I think she’s a prime example of strength, a prime example of confidence, a prime example of just selflessness, and a prime example of everything,” Williams told Behnaz Ghahramani, chief marketing officer Stuart Weitzman.

The tennis player continued, “And I know it’s not easy, and you can see from the interview that it wasn’t easy. But she had so much poise and still had so much class. “

Serena Williams said Meghan Markle was the “strongest person” she knew.

“I don’t know of anyone else who could handle anything on such a global scale that she had to handle things that are just wrong – minute after minute. Not even day after day, just minute after minute, another false accusation is thrown at her, “she said. “I think it was important for me to say something because I’m tired of sitting back and seeing all that negativity that’s not true.”

In her original Instagram statement, Williams said of Markle, “She teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. Her words reflect the pain and hardship she has experienced. I personally know the racist and racist institutions and the media use to demean women and people of color to demean us, to break us down, and to demonize us. We must recognize that it is our duty to prove malicious malice and tabloid originality. Mental health and the effects of systemic and violent violence are horrific, lonely and too often fatal. ”
