Scientists discover a meteorite that is the oldest volcanic rock ever found on Earth

The oldest volcanic rock on planet Earth has been discovered because scientists have said it is “unlike any other meteorite” they have ever discovered. The oldest volcanic rock, the meteorite, was discovered in the Sahara desert in 2020 and dates back to two million years after the formation of the sun. The volcanic rock is called Erg Chech 002 or EC 002 and there is no other meteorite that has similar properties.

The oldest volcanic rock EC 002

Jean-Alix Barrat from the University of Western Britain in France said they had been working on dragonflies for more than 20 years. As he was marking the one found in the Sahara desert, he said, “This is probably the most amazing new meteorite I have ever seen.” The Newscientists quoting Jean- Alix Barrat has announced that he and his colleagues have analyzed the meteorite it Erg Chech 002 or EC 002. The meteorites found on Earth are made of another type of volcanic rock called the called basalt. The new meteorite found shows that it melted once and again hardened nearly 4.6 billion years ago.

The asteroid is not known as EC 002

The analysis revealed that it may have been part of the crust of an old protoplanet that broke up in the past solar system. Researchers have revealed that there is no other asteroid that exhibits EC 002-like features that mean they have already fallen to form planets or must have died. A reporter said that Jean-Alix Barrat said that the scientists will not be able to sample any other sample older than EC 002. again after it melts. They added that further study of the early solar system would help us to understand how the planets, including Earth, were formed.
