SOLAR winds may have lost Mars’ atmosphere, according to a computer simulation study that confirms the long-held belief that planets need a protective magnetic field to block harmful radiation in order to sustain life. While factors such as the presence of a moderately warm, humid atmosphere and melting water determine whether a planet can produce life, the study, published in the Royal Astronomical Society’s Monthly Announcements, near the ability of planets to generate magnetic fields around them is observed.

In the current study, the scientists simulated two situations of the Red Planet – one considering a young Mars with its incomplete magnetosphere, and the other with the planet without this force field. The symbols showed that the magnetosphere in the young Mars may have been a shield that stopped the solar wind from coming too close to the planet ‘s atmosphere and thus protecting it.
