Schlupp: Crystal Palace boss Hodgson sheds light on Ghana star’s latest injury

Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp will be under a spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury following Saturday’s Premier League 2-0 win over Sheffield United.

The Ghana international was on target in a matchday 17 match but left the pitch 36 minutes after his fourth opening minute as the Eagles claimed all three points at Selhurst Park.

He was replaced by Eberechi Eze who scored the second goal of the game on a half-time beat. The German-born player was the second most injured for Palace on the day as Christian Benteke was sent off just three minutes after the interval.

“Benteke got a kick in the first half – we think it’s a dead leg that doesn’t usually grow into anything in the long run. Jeff Schlupp is more worried because he certainly is. He felt a leg cramp. He seems to be missing us for a while and that is unfortunate because he has been doing very well for us, “said the Palace boss. Roy Hodgson on the two injured, as reported by his club’s official website.

Schlupp was only just beginning to get into his ditch after a slow start to the season, and Saturday’s game was his 15th appearance and 12th start of the campaign.

The goal was his second of this term, following a crucial tie in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last month.

“If you play in defense against a tough player and then play further up the pitch, up against a midfielder, it’s almost reversed. Mentally you do it right, “Schlupp said of his pre – match preparation ahead of Saturday ‘s game.

“Usually going up to the games I have a chat with the gaffer if he’s about to put me somewhere else, so I have plenty of time to get my head around it and prepare well for no matter what position I play.

“You have to look at the positive aspects of everything in football or it can be very difficult.

“You always have to take the positive things out of anything. In football there are so many highs and lows. The lowest levels you bring forward, but to be positive is the main thing. “

The 28-year-old joined the Palace in 2017, a year after winning the league with Leicester City.
